The demand for artificial intelligence expertise is no longer confined to the tech industry. According to LinkedIn, sectors such as professional services, administrative and support services, retail, and manufacturing are now leading in hiring for AI-related roles, surpassing the tech sector since December 2022.
Job postings on LinkedIn mentioning AI or generative AI have more than doubled globally from July 2021 to July 2023. This trend is echoed on other job search platforms like Indeed, which reported a nearly 4,000% increase in searches for generative AI jobs and a 306% rise in job postings in the last year, as highlighted by Trey Causey, head of responsible AI at Indeed.
The most in-demand AI jobs, as shared by CNBC Make It using data from Indeed and ZipRecruiter, include data scientists, software engineers, data engineers, research scientists, and product managers. These roles were identified as the top AI jobs on both platforms between January and October 2023.
According to ZipRecruiter, the average salaries for these AI roles exceed $100,000, with data scientists earning an average of $127,128 and product managers topping the scale at $153,698. Remarkably, these roles also offer the flexibility of remote work, with thousands of open remote opportunities currently available.
While technical AI positions such as software engineers and data scientists have seen a steady rise in demand, there's also a growing need for AI literacy in non-technical roles, like supply chain specialists and sales managers, according to LinkedIn. This trend underlines the expanding influence of AI across various business workflows and sectors.
The expanding demand for AI talent across diverse industries reflects the growing integration of AI in different aspects of business operations. As companies continue to embrace AI in their workflows, the need for AI skills in a variety of roles is expected to keep rising.
