Google (GOOGL.O) is set to expand its voice analytics services for the banking and investment sectors. As financial institutions face stringent regulatory scrutiny, Google Cloud's Vertex AI platform will be integrated into Symphony's Cloud9 voice product, enhancing it with advanced speech-to-text and natural language processing capabilities.
This collaboration comes at a time when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has imposed over $2 billion in fines due to non-compliance in communication tracking, particularly during the COVID-19 lockdowns. With an increased focus on voice and video call monitoring, financial firms are looking for reliable solutions to record and analyze a wider range of communications.
Symphony, serving clients like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, will leverage Google Cloud's AI to ensure accurate transcription of communications for compliance purposes. The system will also identify and flag suspicious activities, thereby aiding in the detection of potential misconduct.
Zac Maufe, Global Head of Regulated Industries at Google Cloud, emphasized the transformative potential of generative AI in automating tasks and identifying irregularities in trading data. The enhanced Cloud9 product is expected to hit the market by Q2, according to Symphony CEO Brad Levy.
Beyond compliance, the AI-enabled platform aims to provide financial institutions with deeper insights from their data, influencing sales and trading strategies while improving customer experience. Phil Moyer, VP of Google Cloud's Global AI Business, highlighted the platform's role in making compliance more 'ambient' and managing the exponential growth in data.
