In his studies, Leibbrandt found that women in tech fields are more receptive to AI-assisted recruitment, perceiving it as less biased compared to human evaluators. This sentiment is particularly strong in environments where 'bro culture' and gender bias are concerns.

An experiment conducted by Leibbrandt involved job advertisements in the tech sector that specified whether applications would be reviewed by humans or by AI. The findings revealed that women were more inclined to apply when AI was responsible for the initial screening, suggesting a trust in AI's impartiality.

Conversely, male applicants showed a decreased likelihood to apply when AI was used for initial screenings, indicating a perceived loss of advantage. This reaction highlights the diverse impact AI can have in the hiring process across different demographics.

Another perspective comes from Barb Hyman, CEO of Sapia.ai. Her company uses AI-powered text chats to screen job applicants, offering an alternative to more intimidating traditional methods. Hyman suggests that AI can help mitigate unconscious biases, potentially leading to a more diverse and fair hiring process.

Hyman emphasizes the need for AI in today's competitive job market, where talent is scarce. AI can help uncover potential in a wider array of candidates, beyond the limitations of conventional recruitment methods.
