Microsoft President's Shocking Revelation: Super-Intelligent AI Set to Arrive Sooner Than You Think!

Published on: March 10, 2024

The President of technology giant Microsoft, Brad Smith, has stated that there is no likelihood of super-intelligent artificial intelligence (AI) being developed within the next 12 months. He also cautioned that the realization of such technology could be many years, if not decades, away.

Earlier this month, Sam Altman, the co-founder of OpenAI, was temporarily removed from his CEO position by the company's board of directors but was swiftly reinstated following a weekend of outcry from employees and shareholders.

Reuters reported last week that Altman's removal came shortly after researchers had contacted the board, expressing concerns about a potentially dangerous discovery that could have unintended consequences.

The internal project, known as Q* (pronounced Q-Star), is believed to be a significant development in OpenAI's pursuit of artificial general intelligence (AGI). AGI is defined as autonomous systems that can outperform humans in most economically valuable tasks.

Despite these developments, Microsoft President Brad Smith dismissed claims of a dangerous breakthrough. He stated, 'There's absolutely no probability that you're going to see this so-called AGI, where computers are more powerful than people, in the next 12 months. It's going to take years, if not many decades, but I still think the time to focus on safety is now.'

Sources indicated that the warning to OpenAI's board was one of several grievances that led to Altman's temporary removal, along with concerns about commercializing advances without assessing their risks.

When asked if the discovery contributed to Altman's removal, Smith responded, 'I don't think that is the case at all. I think there obviously was a divergence between the board and others, but it wasn't fundamentally about a concern like that.'

Smith emphasized the need for safety mechanisms in AI systems, comparing them to safety brakes in various technologies, stating, 'What we really need are safety brakes. Just like you have a safety break in an elevator, a circuit breaker for electricity, an emergency brake for a bus – there ought to be safety breaks in AI systems that c
