Nvidia and Microsoft Unveil ‘AI Supercomputer’ PCs at GTC, Marking a New Era of Personal Computing

Published on: June 1, 2026

On June 1, 2026, at the GTC conference in Taipei, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang revealed what he called “a new era of PC” in collaboration with Microsoft — described as the most significant reinvention of the personal computer in 40 years. This announcement reflects a strategic shift toward integrating AI capabilities deeply into everyday devices for content creation, gaming, and autonomous assistance.

Central to this breakthrough is the new RTX Spark “superchip,” designed to unify AI agents, content creation, and gaming on a single portable device. Nvidia and Microsoft plan to bring these RTX Spark‑powered laptops to market later in the autumn, though pricing has not yet been disclosed. Adobe products like Photoshop and Premiere Pro are being re‑engineered to take advantage of the chip’s architecture.

Complementing the superchip is Nvidia’s newly introduced Vera processor, described as a CPU specifically built for AI agents. Huang characterized Vera as potentially “the last computer science breakthrough,” capable of accelerating task completion by approximately 1.8 times. Both Rubin GPU and Vera CPU architectures are expected to incorporate full liquid cooling designs, without any cables, hoses, or fans.

Huang emphasized the rise of “agentic AI,” autonomous systems that take actions based on user preferences without constant explicit direction. While acknowledging that these agents still require human oversight, he stated that “agentic and useful AI has arrived,” underscoring their importance at the conference’s outset.

Economically, Huang portrayed AI as not merely a cost center but a source of revenue, coining the idea that “compute is revenue.” He articulated a vision of widespread deployment, where developing AI “factories” globally would both propel growth and meet surging compute demand. He further dismissed fears that AI threatens software engineers’ jobs, instead stating that the real risk lies in someone adept at using AI taking your job.

The event closed with an imaginative yet divisive touch: an AI‑generated video showed robots strolling through Taipei’s night markets and singing about the keynote announcements. While visually captivating, the segment drew mixed reactions and was described by some as “a little bit cringe.”
