Google Rebrands NotebookLM as Gemini Notebook, Deepens AI Integration

Google has officially renamed its AI research and note‑taking tool NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. The rebranding is being rolled out starting July 16, 2026, and aims to align the tool more closely with Google’s broader Gemini AI ecosystem, including the Gemini app, Gemini Live, and AI Mode in Search.
Under the new branding, Gemini Notebook retains its core functions while gaining tighter integration with other Google AI platforms. Projects, sources, chats and instructions now sync seamlessly between Gemini Notebook and the main Gemini app, enabling users to access their work across multiple interfaces.
Notably, Google is expanding access to advanced features like native cloud‑based code execution, provided via its Antigravity infrastructure and Gemini 3.5 model. Pro tier users on the web will receive these enhancements over the coming weeks, enabling notebooks to perform tasks such as code execution for data analysis, automated chart and document generation, and exports in formats like PPTX, XLSX, DOCX, PDF and SVG.
These upgrades effectively transform Gemini Notebook from a document summarization tool into a more agentic research workspace. Now, users can upload or discover sources, run custom code in a secure sandbox, track step‑by‑step reasoning, and produce polished outputs directly within the environment.
While the changes aim to offer greater productivity, some users have expressed concerns that tight integration with Gemini may affect the tool’s traditional strength in precision and clarity. In particular, a segment of users reports that responses have become more verbose and less information‑dense with Gemini’s influence.
Overall, the transition marks Google’s move toward a unified branding strategy for its AI offerings, while elevating Gemini Notebook’s capabilities to support complex, project‑based research workflows across the Gemini suite and Google tools.
